Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, said the US wanted to renew its alliance with Europe, but on “Trump’s terms”. He said the US and Europe had a shared history and called on Europe to work with the US to rebuild the global order.

2. Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has slammed Trump’s policies.
AOC said the Trump administration could usher in a “time of totalitarianism”, criticising policies on Gaza, Venezuela and US-EU relations. Also in the news was the closure of a Homeland Security agency due to lack of funding, and the easing of inflation in January.
