ABUJA, Nigeria — October 6, 2026 — Nigeria has declared three days of national mourning following the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft in Ondo State that killed all 32 people aboard.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the mourning period and directed that national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the Air Force personnel who lost their lives.
The aircraft, carrying 25 passengers and seven crew members, was conducting a routine mission from Benin City to Lagos when it crashed near the Igbokoda area of Ondo State on Monday. Reuters reported that there were no survivors.
President Tinubu has ordered the Nigerian Air Force to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash, while authorities continue efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The tragedy has prompted national mourning as Nigeria honours the military personnel who died while carrying out their duties.
